Scorpion - Systems Engineer (SysOps)

Remote - Current

Member of the Technical Operations Team focused on SysOps, working in conjunction with Scorpion’s DevOps team to build, standardize and maintain systems and network infrastructure platforms on-prem and in Azure, as well as deployment pipelines in Azure DevOps.

  • Architected and engineered Scorpion’s New Relic observability and monitoring platform with emphasis on APM, infrastructure metrics and integrations with Kubernetes and Azure allowing the organization to better understand trends and “pain points” and better streamline processes.
    • Built tooling to automate the deployment and decommissioning of New Relic monitoring solutions to streamline our process of building and removing monitors and alerts for roughly 7000 individual client website endpoints, as well as scripted health checks for internal APIs.
    • Developed custom instrumentation solution for .NET applications to provide a better understanding of site health, response time, and potential issues
  • Engineered, deployed, and “own” open source Ansible platform for Desired State Configuration
    • Develop playbooks to baseline configuration, and apply to Linux and Windows hosts in our environment.
    • Built automation processes to keep Ansible inventories and groups current, and deploy playbooks to appropriate resources with minimal administrative input.
  • Manage local and Azure (AKS) Kubernetes clusters using Rancher
    • Built scalable, redundant Linux and Windows worker clusters, ensuring that workloads are running at scale
    • Implemented tooling allowing for auto-scaling of Kubernetes deployments based on hardware metrics (CPU, memory) as well as external metric integrations with Azure (ServiceBus Message Queues, Azure Functions)
